Matching Grant 2014 Voting

What is a Matching Grant?
The City of Raleigh invites neighborhood groups like ours to apply for Neighborhood Improvement Funds to support a project that will enhance and strengthen neighborhoods. The THNA is eligible to apply for funds up to $1,000, and since it's a matching grant, we have to provide a match of at least 50% of the cost of the project. A match can be a combination of volunteer labor and donations. (The majority of the THNA's contribution in the past has been through volunteer labor.) The THNA has applied and been fortunate to win these funds over the last few years. Last year, we used this award money for our Fall Festival.

Thanks for sharing your ideas for how the THNA could potentially use matching grant funds this year! The THNA Board has selected voting options based on the suggestions that meet the criteria below and that seem feasible for the THNA to implement based on capacity and the matching grant budget.

Project Criteria
  • Neighborhood Organizing: To create, diversify, or expand membership in a neighborhood group for the benefit of the entire neighborhood or community. Examples: Newsletters, Outreach, Web Pages.

  • Physical Improvement: To physically improve a neighborhood or community. Examples: Landscaping, signs, park and playground equipment.

  • Non-Physical Improvement: To organize and hold events and activities. Examples: Festival, celebration, training session, workshop, educational campaign.

Voting Options
Here's a list of ideas that neighbors suggested that are up for vote:
  • Neighborhood Signs: Design and purchase permanent signs to designate our neighborhood as the Thompson-Hunter Neighborhood.
  • Neighborhood Landscaping: Determine public areas that need landscaping attention in the neighborhood, and plan and implement those ideas to further beautify our neighborhood.
  • Neighborhood Festival: Plan and host a social gathering for the neighborhood to bring neighbors together from all parts of the neighborhood for a fun, shared time together.
