Board Elections

The general board is voted upon and elected by the association membership each year in April. The elected board then appoints specific board roles at their first board meeting after election.

Who’s Eligible?
  • The board should (ideally) consist of at least 5 board members, and no more than 9, per annual term. (If possible, no more than two board members shall reside on the same street.)

  • Only persons eligible for membership shall be qualified to hold an elected or appointed position. (Residents, property owners and persons with a business licence within the boundaries of the Thompson-Hunter Neighborhood are eligible for THNA membership.) 

Primary Roles

Chair 
  • Presides at all THNA Board meetings and all membership meetings.
  • Performs such duties as the Board and the membership from time to time as the Board authorizes.
  • Represents the position of the Board and the interests of the neighborhood association to the extent s/he is authorized to do so by the membership. 
Vice Chair 
  • Perform the duties of the chairperson in the chairperson’s absence and as authorized by the bylaws or regulations of the board. 
Secretary
  • Records and maintains minutes of membership and Board meetings.
  • Assists the chairperson with correspondence and maintains the online & hard copy, non-financial files of the neighborhood association.
  • Maintains a list of Board members and their terms.
Treasurer
  • Has charge of all voluntary contributions or other funds belonging to the neighborhood association.
  • Receives deposit funds for the neighborhood association in an account at a bank(s) or financial institution(s) belonging to the neighborhood association.
  • Disburses funds in such manner as designated by the board.
  • Provides financial reports to the membership as directed by the board.
Member-At-Large
(flexible according to board needs in a given term)
  • Assists the board with various responsibilities as needed.
  • Leads interest areas specified by the board as needed.
Desired Roles
(Appointed after primary roles are filled.) 

Community Watch Chair
  • Is an active member of the THNA Board and represents the THNA Community Watch Committee. 
  • Presides at all THNA Community Watch Committee meetings. 
  • Oversees and provides leadership to the THNA Community Watch Committee. 
  • Represents the position of the THNA Community Watch Committee and interests of the neighborhood in community watch matters.
Technology Admin Chair
  • Is an active member of the THNA Board
  • Collaborates with chair and secretary on association communication.
  • Maintains website, board email accounts, and other technology-related aspects of the board.
CAC Chair
  • Attends area CAC meetings regularly and reports those happenings to the Board.
  • Represents the position of the board and interests of the neighborhood at CAC meetings, and advocates on their behalf.
